The Department of Education recently announced that collections on defaulted federal student loans are scheduled to resume on May 5th for the first time in five years.

This means that starting on this date, borrowers with loans in default may begin to see collections activity restart, including wage garnishment, tax refund withholding, and other collection efforts.
