Implementation of SWC Compensation Increases – Key Dates and Required Departmental Actions
Following the recent communication from the Office of Public Affairs, this message provides guidance regarding the implementation process and timeline for the approved increases to Student Officer and Student Casual compensation.
Process
The Human Resources Processing Center (HRPC) will implement the adjustments to regular base pay centrally. Once the salary updates have been completed, departmental administrators will have the opportunity to review and, if necessary, make corrections prior to the November 7, 2025 pay date. For additional pay adjustments, those will be uploaded via spreadsheets received from CUIMC Payroll Office, GSAS, or SEAS.
Population
- Student Officers: All active student officers (Teaching Assistants, Teaching Fellows, Preceptors, Readers, Teaching Assistants II, Teaching Assistants III, Graduate Research Assistants, Department Research Assistants, Department Research Assistants II) in PeopleSoft (PAC) will automatically receive a 3% increase to their base regular salary effective October 16, 2025. The increase will not be retroactive to their appointment start dates.
- Student Officers at $0-Salary with Add Comp: Student officers with $0-salary appointments who receive stipends as additional compensation via PAC, will not be updated centrally. Departments will need to work with the CUIMC Payroll Office at the Medical Center, GSAS, SEAS or their School to calculate the increases. It will then be uploaded into PAC.
- Student Casuals: All active student casuals holding the applicable student titles listed below will have their hourly rates increased to $23.00 per hour effective October 20, 2025. For new hires or rehires entered into PAC after October 10th with start dates of October 16th or later, should be hired using the new rate of $23.00 per hour:
- Student Instructional Worker
- Student Research Worker
- Student Academic Support Worker
NOTE: Student casuals currently earning above $23.00 per hour will not be affected by this adjustment.
- Students not on appointment who receive disbursements from SIS will receive the stipend increase through SIS.
