New Jersey Transit Rail Service Disruption

May 16, 2025

This email was sent to the HR Network on Thursday, May 15. Both parties reached an agreement to run a full schedule of trains beginning at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20.

We are closely monitoring the anticipated strike by New Jersey Transit workers and recognize that this may create a significant hardship for many of our employees who rely on public transportation to commute from New Jersey to our New York campuses.

We are asking for your flexibility during this period as we support impacted colleagues in continuing their work with minimal interruption. Employees affected by this disruption who can work from home should be allowed to do so with the approval of their manager.

As a reminder, and in accordance with our "Establishing Essential/Non-Essential Personnel in Case of a Campus Emergency Policy," departments should have already identified essential personnel and clearly communicated these expectations to affected staff members. Essential personnel are expected to report to work on-site unless otherwise directed by their department.

The NJ Transit website has additional information about a potential rail service disruption, with information about affected service and limited added capacity on existing NJ Transit bus routes.

If you have any questions regarding your department's preparedness or need assistance in reviewing essential personnel designations, please contact your Senior Human Resources Business Partner.

Thank you for your attention and for your continued support in maintaining our operational continuity.
